Staff WriterWhat you need to know about Skin Lightening Products
By: Michelle Jacobs
Staff Writer

Almost everyone has some part of their skin they are unhappy with. Some are embarrassed by dark sunspots, age spots, freckles, or moles, while some people simply wish that the tone and color of their skin was more even or lighter including on their face. The reality is that we live in a world where appearance matters and the skin is typically the first thing people see and often the last thing they remember.

In order to save our readers the time and frustration of testing multiple skin bleaching treatments, our company has reviewed the most popular, effective, and safest skin lightening products available on the market. We reviewed these product based on their ingredients, manufacturer’s claims, results and overall customer satisfaction.

Dark Underarms

Over the last few months, we have received numerous requests to review skin lightening products which are effective for lightening dark underarms. After some review, we have concluded that the products listed in our grid are both safe and effective in lightening dark underarms and can be used as underarm whitening creams. However, we do suggest to that you only use a small amount of each product, as this is a very sensitive area of the skin.

Hydroquinone *Warning*

The single most important ingredient you need to watch out for when deciding on a skin bleaching cream is Hydroquinone. This is because Hydroquinone is extremely dangerous and may lead to the development of cancer. It has already been banned in countries like the U.K. and France, and Dr. Jacobs of the F.D.A. has concluded that Hydroquinone is mutagenic, clastogenic, and immunotoxic. After learning of this new research, our team concludes that you should avoid any product which containsHydroquinone and instead use products which include the safer lightening agent: Alpha Arbutin.

Human skin is an extremely delicate organ. In fact, skin is the largest organ on the human body. Skin protects internal organs, regulates body temperature, as well as has the ability to regenerate in order to constantly provide new layers of healthy skin. However, like any organ on the human body, skin is also extremely susceptible to damage. Skin damage may occur from a wide array of issues including disease (acne), burns, trauma (cuts, surgery), as well as from prolonged exposure to the sun which will result in not only uneven, Hyperpigmented skin, but also the potential for the development of skin cancer.

If you have Hyperpigmented skin, you should not be alarmed. Hyperpigmented skin simply means that your skin has an abundance of melanin which is the pigment that determines the color of your skin. Hyperpigmented skin is generally used to describe, in a broad sense, any area of the skin that is uneven in color. This is why sun, liver, and age spots are considered Hyperpigmented skin.

While the development of Hyperpigmented skin does not typically pose a health risk, many of those that have discolored skin seek some form of skin treatment in order to gain the appearance of healthy, evenly colored skin. Of course, there are multiple treatments available that aim to specifically address Hyperpigmented skin. There are prescriptions treatments, over-the-counter ointments as well as a variety of surgical procedures including laser resurfacing. However, many of those with Hyperpigmented skin opt for a less invasive treatment method such as using a topical skin bleach or skin lightening agent. These products are often highly effective in addition to being less expensive and risky. It is also important to mention that while most skin bleaching/lightening products contain Hydroquinone, it is best to choose a product that does not contain any percentage of this potentially harmful chemical.
